Her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President, and His Excellency the Minister of Transportation & Telecommunications and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) Chairman, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed launched two cultural heritage galleries at the new Bahrain International Airport (BIA). In collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, BAC and BACA, the galleries will serve as an important platform to showcase Bahrain’s cherished history, art, and culture to departing and transit passengers.

Moreover, the terminal prides itself on being an advocate for reducing plastic consumption within the premises and advocating recycling unwanted plastic. The terminal's parameters are surrounded by self-sustaining plants and are also equipped with sustainable construction materials. Bahrain International Airport is supported by its 'Building Management System' (BMS) and its state of the art world-class energy-efficient cooling systems which aid in boosting the terminal towards a greener, more sustainable operation.

The Pearl Lounge features a collection of artworks commissioned specially for Bahrain International Airport from 15 of Bahrain’s leading artists. The pieces emphasize Bahrain’s major artistic and cultural contributions in a variety of distinctive styles, ranging from abstract to realism.

 

The selection highlights the cultural wealth of Bahrain’s past and present and celebrates local creativity. The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities will host regular cultural and art exhibitions at the galleries to connect passengers to the local community beyond the airport.
